Meghalaya - "The Abode of Clouds" is one of India's most beautiful states. This state is engulfed by white buoyant clouds and lush greenery and yo will just love the clean and pristine environment.
Without further ado, here are the things that you can do in Meghalaya.
Day 1: - Arrival in Guwahati and transfer to Shillong (Approx.100 KM / 2-3 Hours)
Pick up from the airport and drive towards Shillong, Shillong is the capital city of the state of Meghalaya, en-route visit the Umiam Lake which was created by damming the Umiam River, on arrival Check-in to the hotel and the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Shillong.
Day 2: - Shillong - Jowai - Krangsuri Waterfall - Shillong (Approx.100 KM / 2-3 Hours) Today after breakfast drive towards Krangshuri Waterfall, en-route visit Jowai, Jowai is a town located in the Jaintia Hills District, visit the Thadlaskein Lake, Lalong Park, and Tyrshi Falls. Later continue to drive towards Krangsuri Waterfall, located in Amlarem Civil sub-division in Jowai, Meghalaya.
Krang Suri is a spectacular waterfall that provides an amazing bird's eye view of the entire location. No nature lover and adventure enthusiast can afford to miss this breath-taking milky white waterfall which is a tourist's delight. This entire region is studded with visuals that take one's a breath away. Later drive back towards Shillong and the evening at leisure. Overnight stay at Shillong
Day 3: - Shillong - Maylynnong - Dawki - Cherapunji (Approx. 200 KM / 5-6 Hours) This morning after breakfast, drive towards Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. En-route, visit balancing rock of Mawlynnong and also visit the Single Decker living root bridge in the Jungle. Later,climb up on the locally made watchtower which is made from bamboo the tower gives you a 360-degree view of the area.
Later drive towards Dawki here you can enjoy water activities (On a direct payment basis) in the Umngot river. Overnight stay at Cherapunji.
Day 4: - Cherrapunjee Local Sightseeing Today, after breakfast, go on a local sightseeing tour of Cherrapunjee. Cherrapunjee is historically known as "Sohra.
Nohkalikai waterfall which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India and its height is 1115 feet.
Also visit the Seven Sister Waterfall. Overnight stay at Cherrapunjee.
Day 5: - Shillong to Guwahati (Approx.100 KM / 2-3 Hours) Today, after breakfast, drive towards Guwahati. On arrival, transfer to Guwahati Airport for your onward journey.
Points to be noted :
Accomodation : It is advised to make your booking for stay in Advance. You can book through Booking.com, AirBnb etc. In some places like Double decker root bridge, you can easily find homestays which can be booked once you reach there.
Food : You can find good food (both vegetarian and non vegetarian) in almost all the places so that should not be a problem.
Budget : For 2 people, around Rs. 30,000/- excluding flight will be enough for a 5 day trip. But this totally depends on the type of accommodation you opt for and the mode of transport you choose.
Best time to visit : The best time to visit Meghalaya is between October and June. Most tourist destinations in the state receive temperatures around 30 degree Celsius making it a perfect escape between March and June which is the summer season in the country.
